OHRC participates in the meetings of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions

Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosni OHRC Chairman chaired OHRC team participating in the 17th General Assembly of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, held via video conference.

The meeting began with a speech by His Excellency Issam Younes, Chairman of the current session of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions at which he reviewed the Network’s most prominent work during the period of chairing the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the State of Palestine. He also thanked the members of the Network for their continuous support to the Palestinian cause, and all matters that would promote and protect human rights within the Palestinian territories. At the end of his speech, he handed over the presidency of the network to His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee in the sisterly State of Qatar.

The meeting included a speech by Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosni, OHRC Chairman, in which he thanked the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the State of Palestine for the efforts it made while presiding over the previous session. He wished the brothers in the National Human Rights Committee in the State of Qatar, who took over the presidency of the Network for the next session, success. He also thanked the Network’s General Secretariat for its continuous efforts to enhance cooperation and develop joint programs among the Network’s members in issues related to human rights.

The meeting included speeches by representatives from the Human Rights Department of the League of Arab States, ESCWA, OHCHR, and the United Nations Development Program.

In the second session, OHRC represented by Al-Moathir bin Ahmed Al-Siyabi was elected to the membership of the drafting committee of the Network’s. The meeting also discussed the organizational, logistical, and scientific matters, and proposals for working papers, on the International Conference on International Solidarity and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, to be held next December in Doha.

OHRC team participating in the network’s meetings included Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al Kalbani, Secretary General to OHRC, Said bin Salem Al Nuamani, Member of OHRC, Aida bint Shamis Al Hashemiyah, member of OHRC, Dr. Sheikh Hilal bin Said Al Shaidani, member of OHRC, and a number of OHRC staff.
